Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) was established by Government of Kerala in the year 1987 with a vision to imaprt high quality education and training in the field of engineering and Technology. Within a short span of time IHRD has grown in to a network of more than 80 institutions including Engineering Colleges, PolyTechnic Colleges, College of Applied Sciences, Technical Higher Secondary Schools, IHRD Study Centers, Regional centers, Model fuinishing Schools etc. In addition to regular courses of study in academic establishments, IHRD also runs short and long term employment oriented and continuing education programs.


APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (initially Kerala Technological University),a state government university has come into existence on May 21, 2014 with an aim to give leadership to the technology related policy formulation and engineering planning for the state. It also emphaziess to improve the academic standards of the graduate, post graduate and research programmes in engineering science, technology and management and regulate the academic standards of all colleges affiliated to the University. The main thrust areas of the University are Research,Development and Innovation
Cochin University Of Science and Technology CUSAT . The establishment of the erstwhile University of Cochin in 1971 was a commitment from the the Government of Kerala towards the new scientific policy resolution adopted by the Central Government on 4th March 1958. The birth of the new University was with the specific purpose of "development of higher education with particular emphasis on post-graduate studies and reserach in applied science, technology, industry and commerce". The University of Cochin was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was set-up in November 1945 as a national level Apex Advisory Body to conduct survey on the facilities on technical education and to promote development in the country in a coordinated and integrated manner. And to ensure the same, as stipulated in, the National Policy of Education (1986), AICTE be vested with statutory authority for planning, formulation and maintenance of norms and standards, quality assurance through accreditation, funding in priority areas, monitoring and evaluation, maintaining parity of certification and awards and ensuring coordinated and integrated development and management of technical education in the country.

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The Ministry of Human Resource Development launched in December, 2002 the “Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of Government of India (TEQIP)” which aims to upscale and support ongoing efforts in improving quality of technical education and enhancing existing capacities of the institutions to become dynamic, demand-driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking, responsive to rapid economic and technological developments occurring both at national and international levels. The Programme was conceived and designed as a long term project to be implemented in 10-12 years in 3 phases to support excellence and transformation in Technical Education in the country.

The Commissionerate of Entrance Examinations (CEE) is conducting ten distinct Entrance Examinations for admission to Professional Courses every year: Kerala Engineering Agriculture Medical Degree (KEAM), Three year LLB , Five year LLB,  LLM,PG Ayurveda, PG Homoeo, PG Nursing, PG Medical  and Super Specialty. The Commissionerate is also making allotments to KEAM, Three year LLB, Five year LLB, LLM, PG Dental and PG Medical courses. The allotment to KEAM, Three year LLB, Five year LLB, PG Medical and PG Dental are made through a Single Window System of the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP).
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results. GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones.
